Mississippi Foundations of Reading Practice Test

The exam is a computer-based test consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions and two constructed-response (open-ended) written assignments. The two assignment formats include analyzing student skills and planning instructional strategies.

This assessment is a requirement for several educator pathways in Mississippi. Primarily, it is required for candidates seeking an initial license in Elementary Education (for grades K-6, K-3, or 4-6). Additionally, it is required for candidates seeking the Special Education Mild to Moderate (K–12) license. As of October 2025, there is also a new option to take a course for Elementary Education candidates if they attempt the test.

You must register for the exam through the official Mississippi Foundations of Reading website. The process involves creating an online account, selecting the correct test (paying attention to the test code based on your test date), and paying the testing fee. After registration, you can schedule your test appointment at a center or for online proctoring.

The test content is organized into five sections with specific weightings:
